New Study Shows Similar Effects of Binge Eating and Bulimia

“Women who binge eat are less likely to get married while men who binge eat are more likely to struggle with finding and sustaining a job,” according to a recent study published in the Epidemiology and Psychiatric Sciences Journal reported on thestar.com.
Researchers found binge eating to be twice as common as bulimia; and that both disorders deal with similar impulse control issues. Dr. Allan Kaplan, senior scientist and chief of clinical research at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) and vice-chair of research for the University of Toronto’s department of psychiatry said that this study brings to light that binge eating is just as severe as bulimia; and that both are very treatable.
“Overcoming Binge Eating For Dummies,” by MBHA Executive Director Jennie Kramer, MSW, LCSW and Nutritional Manager Marjorie Nolan Cohn, RD, offers realistic healthy eating tips, solutions to outlast and defeat urges, describes the health risks associated with binge eating disorder and details ways to help loved ones who struggle with binge eating disorder.
