We are privileged to have on our staff Elizabeth Carmen, an eating disorders psychotherapist who has a deep level of experience and knowledge with the special needs of the Orthodox Jewish community.
Our specialized focus includes a variety of possible services related to:
- Treatment of all forms of disordered eating along the spectrum
- Dieting and the pressure to be thin for dating/shidduchim
- Societal pressures in the Jewish community
- Navigating weekly Shabbos and related food pressures
- Existential doubts and anxiety
- How to understand religious fasting; creating meaning without fasting when necessary
- OCD tendencies related to Jewish law, Halachic observation and perfectionism
- Relationship issues and preoccupation with food & body
The services we offer may or may not include any of the following on a case by case basis:
- Psychotherapy: Focused, tailored individual and/or family therapy specific to your needs
- Treatment Groups: Specific to disordered eating and/or the Orthodox experience
- Nutritional Counseling
- On and off-site Supervised (Kosher) Meals – with meal support and coaching
- Medication Evaluations – if needed
- DBT and/or CBT Skills Training – individually and in groups
- Hypnosis for smoking cessation, a variety of addictive behaviors and for relaxation training
- EMDR for trauma
- One on One Yoga and Meditative Practices
- Alcohol and Substance Abuse Assessment and Treatment
