Two Meals a Day Better for Weight Loss?

A small research study, led by researchers from the Institute for Clinical and Experimental Medicine, found that a control group that ate only two meals a day lost a difference of 0.41 BMI more than participants who ate six small meals per day. The study which utilized a very small sample size and has not yet been published in a peer-reviewed journal was referenced in an article on Today.com. The weight loss participants experienced in this study is a result of cutting out approximately 500 calories per day, not eating only two meals.  The results of this study may be “statistically significant” but that doesn’t mean they are significant in real life. Statistically, the . That is the difference of just a few pounds and not impactful in a real way in terms of overall heath. For someone struggling with binge eating or emotional/compulsive overeating, and they are different but similar, consuming only two meals per day is not advised. This will in all likelihood only make bingeing or overeating worse due to pendulum swings in low blood sugar, and low blood sugar. In addition,  muscling through many hours without eating and becoming extremely overly hungry is a key trigger for bingeing. We all know that diets NEVER work – because  such a restrictive eating pattern can trigger all-or-nothing thinking, which furthers perpetuates the pendulum swing and binge behaviors.
