Making it “Stick”: Sustainable Eating Disorder Recovery

While eating disorder treatment continuums have traditionally been thought to span from inpatient to outpatient levels of care, what is often overlooked is the ‘view from the ground.’ With environmental and systemic triggers accounting for the majority of relapses, it’s interesting that coaching and other forms of in-home support remain a relatively unchartered path of intervention for eating disorder care provision.

This presentation will utilize case studies to demonstrate the function of in-home support and discuss appropriate interventions for a range of complex eating disorder presentations, including co-occurring Substance Use, Orthorexia, Binge Eating Disorder, and Attention Deficit Disorder. Special attention will also be paid to highlighting the underlying dynamics that impact recovery and the complementary role that in-home support can play both within the family system and as an integral part of an existing multidisciplinary eating disorder treatment team or program.
